In the midst of the pandemic, LinkedIn’s Omaha, Nebraska offices were designed as a fully dynamic work environment with 200,000 square feet of non-assigned, team-based neighborhoods and a host of new space types meant to support entirely new ways of working. The project sought to rethink not only the way people work, but also incorporated sustainable goals, work from local artists, and employee-led values.

This new LinkedIn headquarters leads with well-being, community, and resilience. It is a glimpse into the future of workplace design, based on employee empowerment, and the ever-growing need to strengthen community.

Our team was tasked with designing the brand experience and storytelling throughout the space. LinkedIn is a company that prioritizes culture-building and community. Through extensive research and LI employee engagement, we developed bespoke graphics displayed throughout the office. Each floor was assigned a different Omaha-specific theme, with an overarching framework of the Pioneering Spirit–from inspiring social justice movements to wild zoo escape stories to surreal landmarks. Every graphic and material holds meaning and purpose.

The result is a space that exudes diversity, innovation, and the humble character of Omaha.

The brand team worked closely with interiors to establish a color and material palette to establish wayfinding and keep expression consistent across each floor.

Level 3–Rebellious Courage
Pioneers are brave, accepting of challenges. They lean into curiosity and substitute fear for confidence. They are not afraid to be different.

Visuals focus on stories of the risk takers, the courageous, and the differentiators–including animal escapes at the Henry Doorly Zoo, fallen hero police dog Kobus, and Omaha-born Malcolm X.

We created custom wallpaper prints to activate the micro kitchens and cafes, inviting one to seek out the hidden Omaha and LinkedIn gems within.

Level 4–Wild Imagination
Pioneers are never limited by the status quo. They defy convention, think differently, and dare to dream like never before.

Graphics are dream-like, surreal, and quirky, embracing the weird and the wonderful. Stories include Omaha’s unique public sculptures and landmarks: Molecule Man, Fred’s Flying Circle, Stile di Famiglia (Little Italy’s Giant Fork standing at 13-feet-tall), the world’s largest ball of stamps, and Second Wind Ranch (electic windmills).

Level 4–Mindful Modesty
For pioneers, the pursuit of the undiscovered and ingenuity is not about glory but about bringing it all back home. It’s about improving the lives of friends and neighbors and beyond.

In celebration of Arbor Day (founded in Nebraska), we created a wall graphic made from seed packs of Omaha-native trees–encouraging LinkedIn employees to take part in the holiday and plant trees.
