Museums are in the throes of reinvention at every level: what they contain, where they can be, who visits them and what happens when they do. The transformation is from the spaces and collections of a conventional museum to experiences and connections people seek across all other parts of their lives.

From the earliest age, our impulse to collect rises from an impulse to connect to the world and to our fellow humans. Seashells and rocks give way to trading cards and game cartridges, then sneakers and music. Collections are things to share, to talk about, to compare and contrast. We display them. We secure them. We open them up to people as a way of revealing ourselves.

Collecting is a social act.
It’s time for a Museum that gets it.
